Critter Catchers, Inc - Bat Conservation Scholarship

2008 Bat House Research Project

On February 12, 2008, the first Critter Catchers - Bat Conservation Scholarship was awarded to Laura Hohman.  Laura is a Ph. D. candidate at Indiana State University.

The objective of Laura's research project include:
1. Raise public interest and awareness in bat houses through education
efforts in a variety of communities.  Use of local media to disseminate
information can help locate existing bat houses and encourage people to
erect new ones.
2. Determine what species of bats are most likely to utilize bat houses
in Indiana.  If multiple species are found, examine species preference
for location, style, etc.
3. Determine what styles of bat houses are most successful.
4. Determine what bat house placements are most successful (facing
which direction, height from ground, mounting surface, etc.)

The results of the project will be posted when completed.
