Discovering that there is a bat hanging on your wall might be a new life experience for some. Many people do not realize that this is an indicator of a larger problem. Having a bat hanging on your wall can be scary, so let's get through that initial part. If anyone could have been bitten, be sure to capture the bat to submit for rabies testing. Sometimes people discover bats hanging on a wall in their bedroom and wake up to the bat. In this case, it is recommended that you capture the bat for testing. Do not release it.

To capture the bat, place a box, plastic container, coffee can over the bat and hold it against the wall. It is recommended that you wear leather gloves for extra safety. - Take time to breath and relax. The bat is under the container. When you are ready, slide a flat piece of cardboard between the wall and container to contain the bat.

Discovering a bat that is hanging on your wall is an indication that there is a colony inside the attic or behind the walls. Some species of bats are commonly found living in attics. Take the next step and have a professional inspect your home for evidence.
